FAQs of Share CFDs
1.What is the difference between share trading and single share CFD trading?
Stocks represents the fractional ownership of a company, which is also the ownership certificates of any company.Companies raise fund from shareholders by issuing shares as ownership certificates, which is securities used by shareholders to receive dividends from those companies
CFD stands for “Contract for Difference”, single share CFD is an Over-The-Counter (OTC) derivative product derived from the pricing of underlying stocks. When you trade a CFD, you are agreeing to exchange the difference in the price of an asset from the point at which the contract is opened to when it is closed, without having to take ownership of the underlying assets. CFD trading is leveraged, which means you can gain exposure to a large position without having the full amount of capital. You could take both long and short positions of CFD which allows you to make profits from price movements of both directions
2.How is market value of a stock calculated?
Market value is commonly used to refer to the market capitalization of a company, which is calculated by multiplying the total number of shares in circulation by the current market price.
Market Value of a stock = current market price of each share * total number of shares in circulation
3.What happens to the price of a CFD position when the stock pays out?
When a dividend is paid on a stock, the value of the stock will be impacted; dividends may impact the amount of overnight costs you pay or earn on your Share CFD position
For example when a company issue $1 dollar of dividend, the market value will decrease by $1 accordingly assuming no other factors influencing the market.
When trading CFD, Prospero Markets as broker ensures that no clients long (buy) or Short (Sell) will be advantaged or disadvantaged by the dividend announcement. Clients Long a share CFD position pas the ex-dividend date will receive dividend and clients holding a short position past the ex-dividend date would be charged a dividend. This dividend will be received or charged using the method of cash adjustment
Short positions will be positively impacted by the drop in Price, while long positions are negatively impacted. Dividend adjustments are therefore applied on Share CFD products to negate the impact of the drop in Price. For example if you hold a long position when stock price drop $1 resulted from $1 dividend issued, you are credited a dividend adjustment. If you hold a short position when stock price drop $1 resulted from $1 dividend issued, you will be debited a dividend adjustment to offset the impact of this price drop.
As a result, there is no material impact on your CFD trading due to dividend pay-out from the underlying stocks
4.What's the difference between a value stock and a growth stock?
A growth stock is a stock anticipated to grow at a rate significantly above the average growth for the market, they often have some competitive advantages, decent management and fast revenue growth.
A value stock is a stock appears to be undervalued relative to the company's financial performance, as measured by such fundamentals as the company's assets, revenue, dividends, earnings and cash flows; value stocks are often large in company scale with more stable earning capacity.
